selecting art for your home

Abundance by Carla Coulson, a limited edition photographic print from Forman Picture Framing lights up the dining room of our Holland Park Bungalow project.

The impact art has on an interior is not to be underestimated. Art makes a room sing adding colour, meaning, and substance to a home. An individual’s collection of art tells a story about the person who lives there and creates another dimension to the interior.

Where do you start? There are a wide range of bricks and mortar and online galleries representing a variety of artists to suit your budget, interests and taste. You can chose from original art by well known Australian artists represented by respected Australian galleries, limited edition prints, photographic art and works by emerging local artists . Instagram is also a good place to follow artists and find art.

When selecting art for a client’s home, I prefer not to match the art to the interiors but rather suggest the interior works in with the art no matter where it is placed in the home. But in saying that, I do love it when the fabrics in the cushion or the lampshade pick up one of the colours in the artwork. And sometimes I use the art to inspire the colours in the interiors as artists have a wonderful sense of the use of colour and texture.

To me, I could not live without art in my home as it provides inspiration everyday. It is this passion for art that I like to pass on to my clients and to introduce them to some of the amazing talented artists we have right here on our doorstep.

I can assist in the selection of art whether it be to add to a your existing art collection or to help you purchase your first piece of art for your home.
